About

Mastery is Essential

Using knowledge is powerful

DKLA's mastery standard is 80%. Students who score 80% and higher in the classroom will do well on the BECE, qualify for entrance to any senior high school, and is a new life-long learner. We believe every student can master the full range of academic disciplines. We

Teacher Accountability

Great teachers make great students

Teachers improve students' performance and expand their ability to become lifelong learners. DKLA trains and coaches every teacher and holds them accountable for student performance. We expect our teachers to create and execute engaging daily lesson plans in every session.

Blended Curriculum

We are better together

Rote memory, a hallmark of Ghanaian education, is helpful for learning facts. Systematic approaches to problem-solving, a focus in Western education models, teach students to apply facts, focusing on solutions. DKLA uses both approaches in every academic discipline.

Different Education for a Changing Northern Ghana

Why focus on the Arts and Computing?

Art Expands the Brain

Music, drama, dance, painting, and other arts engage parts of the brain that academic study ignores. Students learn creative expression and expand imagination, helping them to grow as individuals. Interestingly, artistic learning also helps academic learning.

Art and Cultural Appreciation

Ghanaian cultures are at risk. Students learning English and modern methods can have a negative view of their ancestors' traditional cultures. We've seen that engaging local cultures through the arts is an excellent way for students to learn and appreciate their culture.

Computing is the Tech of Today

You are reading this on a computer! Computing is the current tool we use communication, and your child needs to know how to use it.

DKLA helps students discern and use truth in their electronic communication and development.

Technology and Cultural Growth

Ghanaians who know how to use technology well speed up healthy cultural growth. Whether your ward writes emails in the office, operates robots in a factory, or teaches medicine at the university, they will stamp Ghana with a piece of their culture.

Intentional Christian Education

Huddles

Daily meetups before classes start with a Gospel reading, reflection, announcements, sharing, and prayer for a small group of students and DKLA staff.

Chapel

Friday service with music, singing, dancing, and Gospel reflection. Chapel is the time when we gather as a community to celebrate the goodness of God.

Teachers & Staff

DKLA staff are all Christians. We model the purposeful peace of Jesus in the classroom, the cafeteria, and administration.

Practicing the Presence of Christ

"Preach the Gospel at all times; use words when necessary," is credited to St. Francis of Assisi. He didn't write those exact words--but we try to live them at DKLA.
